  1. After looking through the links, I spent most of my time looking through newsok, I found the for a lot of the blog posts were like news stories with photographs paced throughout the stories.

I really like that, and I think that I would read the newspaper more often if they were paced that way. News blog stories keep my interest for longer because it's not a big block of text where I have to imagine what it is they are talking about, they will provide me the image so I don't construct something untrue.

  2. I really like the Oklahoma Women Bloggers post. One thing that stood out to me is the follower count. I seem to get wound up in this. I love that it said that your first follower is as important as your 1000th follower. It really puts perspective on why we're actually doing our blogs.

  3. What I found out today is that it is really beneficial to join blogging communities such as Oklahoma Bloggers. It's a great way to connect with (in this case) women with the same interests or from the same region, to expand your social network, learn something new and stay motivated. It also makes its easier for your potencial followers to find your blog.

  4. The blog about Oklahoma Women Bloggers was interesting to see. I feel that it had a lot to do with community. I was drawn to the fact she promoted her friends through their blogs. She seemed to tie in the fact that they are in other states, which I loved!

  5. The Oklahoma Women Bloggers is great and really inspirational. I like the point about "WRITE ANYTHING." Often I'm afraid to post whatever because I don't think anyone will read it, especially if it's random and doesn't usually fit in with my other posts, but that made me realize that it's my blog and I should just write whenever I have something to write about.

  6. I thought many of the Oklahoman blog topics looked interesting, and was really impressed with the Thirsty Beagle, a blog that focuses on a weakness of mine... beer. I know of the author as I worked in the newsroom of the Oklahoman during the summer, and he always seemed to be busy beyond belief. Needless to say, I was impressed with how often he updates the blog with new information.

It put it in perspective that if you have the passion for what you want to blog about, you can find the time despite your busy life to update your blog at least weekly.

  7. I was really excited to see my friend Jordan Skaggs featured on the Oklahoma Women Bloggers site. I've been following her for awhile and I'm so excited for her to continue growing as a recipe blogger. She gives some advice on the OWB site that is really helpful. Don't constantly compare your followers to other's followers; focus on what you can do. Also don't sit stuck when you're experiencing writer's block. Keep writing until something comes out. I have definitely seen the benefit of just getting out all your ideas, good or bad, and usually some gem pops up.

  8. The Oklahoma Women Bloggers Blog was very interesting and unique. I feel like if I have something I wanna post about that nobody will find it interesting and want to read or share it. So I like how they said you can write anything you want, because to me maybe what I feel is a random post can be relatable to someone else out there that is reading it.

  9. Being a photographer, and having my blog centered around photos for the most part, I noticed in the Oklahoman photographers blog that there was a story about the experience the photographer had, and then there was a caption for each picture telling who it was and what they were doing. I may look into writing my experience and the having a cation under my pictures in my blog. As long as my blog still flows well. But I did notice and like that fact about the Oklahoman ones.

  10. I was very surprised by the sheer volume of Oklahoma blogs as well as the diversity of those blogs. In particular The Oklahoman had numerous blogs across a wide range of topics. It was very interesting to see a central community of Oklahoma blogs at blogoklahoma.com as well.

  11. One concept that was displayed in Oklahoma Women Bloggers that I thought was good to point out, was the fact that she encouraged her readers who wanted to start blogs or improve their blog, to visualize how it would be if the followers of the blog were all together in person. This can help bloggers understand how to better reach their readers and to know what things to say would help others. I think it was also important that she mentioned to write what you are thankful for online and offline. When you thank followers online for keeping up with your blog, it gives them a sense of appreciation and value that they are taking time out of their day to read things from a writer who cares that they are reading it. Blogs can truly be used to create communities and can help people become better bloggers.

  12. The Oklahoma Women Bloggers website seems like a great way to connect with other bloggers and showcase your work to a larger audience. The OWB admins give bloggers a sense of community by allowing them to share their thoughts through submitted blog posts. It's interesting to see how many women bloggers are located so close to where I'm from and where I live right now.

  13. I enjoyed the post on the Oklahoma Women's Blogger. The topic was about Small Blog Syndrome. It can be pretty discouraging sometimes when you're trying to start a blog and you only have about 2 followers. I like how she explains that no matter if it's your 1st follower or 100th, that you can still make a difference in each and every one of their life.

  14. I just realized what the Oklahoman does for their blogs. Some of their blogs they have their staffers, or their Anschutz model replacement freelancers who cover beats, who specialize... Now these guys columns, like Lackmeyer's, and The Food Dude, these columns appear sporadically in the paper. I know Lackmeyer's got a spot on the daily sports desk, so his op ed sports column is only published in print to fill space, if they have room, or if they think his op ed piece is especially interesting that week. So... Making these blogs allows them digital content, whether they publish the pieces in print or not. This satisfies the fans of sports commentary, or food critique.

The other ones, like the nerdage, these are attempts to latch on to digital trends. Since most of the men, and many women, who grew up at the end of Generation X and whatever followed it are essentially manchildren, or women into the same type of comic book, sci fi movie culture. It's really about what tests the best. What's hot. I read an advertising study that read that Superheroes are the single highest testing thing in America, big with virtually everyone, no matter race, gender, age, or other demographics. So now every single newspaper, or news channel, or news blog feels it necessary to have podcasts where nerds talk about Star Wars and Batman and 90's cartoons or whatever.

This is one aspect of digital culture that is an obvious fad. Alright, that's what I learned.

The cool thing about blogs if you work for a newspaper is that you get to write opinion pieces, or gonzo journalism pieces, or educational pieces on topics that effect your city, without having to have a major event, or timeliness attached to it.

Like once I got the weekly blog duty at a college paper I was working for. It gave me a chance to interview the head of the local Sierra Club on how white flight and urban sprawl was connected to the downtown Renaissance. Now... Sierra Club wasn't doing anything newsworthy. I just wanted to know what the guy had to say about it, and an excuse to interview someone who knows more than me about something that interested me that day.

So yeah. Blogging for a paper, it gives you self indulgence and fun.

  15. I noticed in Blog Oklahoma that many of the blogs are life blogs. Things going on around them. They seem to become like soap operas for the followers. It also seems to be a nice release for the bloggers. I like that it gives people a creative outlet.

  16. I really liked the section in Oklahoma Women Bloggers titled "Blogging Challenges." Sometimes I have difficulty trying to find something to blog about. This particular post stated that we need to remind ourselves that something will come to mind and we need to just sit down and start writing. There have been times where I'll start writing about something and in the middle of writing I think of something completely different that I want to blog about and I start over. I also liked how they stated we need to value each and every follower because they are taking time out of their days to subscribe and follow you. I really think this blog post has helped me feel better about how I need to be patient and go with certain ideas.

  17. For me, the most inspiring link was the oklahoma women bloggers link. It really put into perspective how blogging really works and gave me inspiration for some of my future blogging. I think what interests me the most is bettering my photography for my blogs. I enjoy photography and spend a lot of time doing photography as a hobby but never really connected the dots between my blog and my photography. That is something I plan on doing in the future with my blogs.

  18. The Oklahoma Woman Bloggers gave me inspiration on blogging while reading her thoughts and perspective on blogging. I feel that I sometime develop writers block when blogging and Its very nice to hear that I'm not the only one that gets it.
I also liked how she talked about valuing the other bloggers online and taking time to read their blogs because their doing the something for me.
