Official blog of Clark's Blogging for Journalists class, Mass Communication department
I think the blog is great. The paintings are awesome and it's good you add one with each post. I think one of your weaknesses is the color layout as far as "old white man" looking goes. Although I think the color scheme matches what you're posting about a more simple color scheme might look better. Other than that I wouldn't make any changes.
I think a change in the colors would really help. The teal-ish color that has the different tabs on in doesn't match any of the other colors. I think it would help to have a color palette and stick with a few similar colors.
Your content is awesome and the coffee puns (like calling followers "coffee drinkers" and posts "Cups of Coffee") are great for the blog. As others have said, I think changing the colors will help. The blog overall looks a little flat, I'd consider even playing with different fonts if you can. Another thing I'd do is incorporate more images of coffee. While the content and puns are there, your imagery is a lot of landscape. I'd consider using maybe coffee and landscape in the same image or maybe alternate to have a fair balance, but definitely more coffee. Also, you're cool! Have a cool logo! You're creative! Make it a creative logo. Something simple but effective. Hope this helps (who am I to judge the look of a blog?)
Going off of what was already said (no need to beat a dead horse) I would encourage you to consider moving your blog off of blogspot and maybe invest in something else. There a a few good hosts that don't require that you pay but they have more up-to-date design and layouts. Squarespace, wix, wordpress.org are some of the ones I have heard recommended. A new lay out and new colors would do your blog justice since you already have great content!
I think the content on your blog is great and I also love the different categories you offer. I think under the "A taste for Movies" category, you should put a brief description as to why you like that movie. As a reader, I am curios as to what you like about it or what interests you. It might interest me to! As for layout I like the layout, I think the color scheme could use some updating and modernizing. I'm really into clean and simple color schemes right now and I would recommend looking into something like that. If I do choose to stick with blogging after this class, I will also be going after a "cleaner" look.
Okay let's be real your blog is obviously pretty bomb. I mean it won an award. So maybe I should be asking you these questions about mine. I love all the Christmas and winter content. It has a really chill/relaxing vibe. I like that a lot. I guess if I HAD to change one thing it might be a more simple layout? I don't know because I was too distracted by the number of page views. That's a lot of views!
I would start by choosing a different color scheme to go with your overall theme. Also, keep the art, but there is a lot of content on your page. I would cut down on the widgets. This may be a personal preference, but I would also expand the layout widths to where the font doesn't appear crammed or blocked. It's just easier on the eye. :)
I think overall your content is great! I love that you include artwork throughout it. I also like your idea to countdown to Christmas. Like Auri said though, I would widen your layout because some areas look a little crammed. I would also try to move some of your widgets on your home page to different areas on the home page other than the sidebar area. For example at the footer of the home page or something. I think I would try to reduce the amount of content on the home page too in order to give it a "cleaner" look as a few people have talked about. I think your overall color scheme isn't bad, but it would look a lot better on a different layout that had more space on it.
I think your blog is informative and gets right to the root through each post. The only suggestions I have are mainly on your layout. The pictures seem to be too big for the post side so they bleed into the right column. I would try maybe a wider layout with less color. A little color to make the posts pop are good, but the different fonts and bolding are a little confusing. Simplicity is the new thing, with more friendly white space.
I would like to say just about the layout or the skin of your blog. The content of your blog is really unique and enjoyable. Well-organized with flourish information. Also the sense of humor that you seasoned. And LOTS of posts... I honor you, professor. One more thing, I don't know if this is just my computer, but some of your pictures does not fit in the template. Maybe it can it be the technical problem, but it will be much comfortable if we can find how that pictures can fit on your template!
