  2. I agree that journalism is still a good degree. Society needs a way for information to get out and without journalists, we wouldn't have stories that would inform us of what's going on the world, stories that interest us, or have any type of benefiting info.

  4. I think that a journalism degree still is a great idea. Like Funk said, "that journalism degree offered – and still offers – a broad set of skills that are applicable to many situations in life and in the work- force." Our world is constantly changing and there will be changes in the years to come in any field you study, such as education or medicine, but the skills you will learn with a journalism degree will always be applicable and never useless.

  5. I agree I think a journalism degree puts you on the right path to do more things than just journalism. In the courses we take I feel that we're closer to a work atmosphere then any other major. We do projects and work in groups more than we take exams and write essays. Because of that we can communicate better with one another and have the tools to succeed right off the back.

  6. I guess it is also still a beneficial degree if you plan on blogging or going into print media, any form of writing. For that, yes.
But learning a broad set of skills can be said about many other jobs too.

  8. I agree with the fact that journalism is still a good degree option. People still need to be educated in how to communicate with the public and be able to report on important issues that society needs to be aware of.

  10. I agree. I think journalism is an incredibly beneficial degree, especially in our generation today. We are so consumed with social media and that seems to be the direction that we're continuing to head. The set of skills that you obtain from a journalism degree can be helpful in multiple settings. It seems that what ever job title you decide to take on the importance of effective communication skills is one of the most desired and sought after skills.

  12. I absolutely agree. First of all, journalism is a communications degree, and the larger the world is getting - the more important the communications field is. I really liked the individual points the author addressed, which make journalism a good degree still. I never thought about it, but the way we're taught to think logically and unbiasedly will be great advantages in the working world. Furthermore, journalism can translate into other industries, which makes the degree very versatile.

The skills the author mentions are beneficial in just about any line of work, but especially any line of work that will involve writing, even if it is just writing up business reports or something.

  15. I agree for sure! Journalism is a very important degree that provides a lot of skills that you can use in everyday life. Without journalists, the world would not have information on anything and I can't imagine a life without knowledge and information, this is what journalists do, enlighten people on whatever they are covering. I can't stand when people try and look down on people who are going for a degree in journalism. At the end of the day, journalism is a mass communications degree and communication is one of the most important things in our society. I believe my degree in journalism is setting me up for a lot of success in life, it goes beyond just journalism, its provided me with skills I will always use.

  16. Many of his points are points I've argued myself when friends or family have told me that journalism is a dying career. I will never deny that the way journalism is done is CHANGING, but dying is not even remotely correct.
